ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's National Guard is sending military Humvees onto Atlanta's snarled freeway system in hopes of moving stranded school buses and getting food and water to people still stuck in their vehicles.

And State Patrol troopers went to schools where children were still taking refuge early this morning.

Yesterday's unusual mix of ice and snow caused hundreds of traffic accidents in Georgia and Louisiana and turned highways into parking lots.
