Starting on Monday, February 16 Republic Garbage Services will be starting a special five week garbage collection for families in the city of Lafayette along with unincorporated areas.

This will be your opportunity to get rid of large appliances, furniture, other items and bagged waste during the Monday through Friday garbage collection cycle.

Why is Republic doing the special collection?  It’s part of their participation in the Project Front Yard program that aims to get rid of litter, and help make our area cleaner.

City Parish President says,

“Republic Services has been a great partner with us from day one on Project Front Yard.  Like many of our other partners, we have asked them to go above and beyond to make this and several other projects happen, and they agreed.  Lafayette is fortunate to have such a good partner."

Each household will receive a postcard detailing when the garbage will be picked up.

Environmental Quality Manager Mark Pope says,

“Republic Services has been a great partner with us from day one on Project Front Yard.  Like many of our other partners, we have asked them to go above and beyond to make this and several other projects happen, and they agreed.  Lafayette is fortunate to have such a good partner.”

Pope adds that during the five week period, February 16 through March 20, there will be no weekly collection of yard waste.

Pope says,

“Republic Services will be dedicating garbage trucks to this special collection – which are normally used for yard waste collection. They will collect what yard waste they can, which will be determined by the quantity of material set out during the special five-week program.”

So what do you do with your yard waste during that time period?

You can get rid of your yard waste free of charge by dropping it off at the Domingues Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Road.

You must show proof that you live in the city of Lafayette or unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish to be able to use the service. An LUS bill or garbage bill from Republic will be needed.
