KPEL personality Tootie Landry is back with a whole new segment: “Off the Grid.” It’s a segment where she goes places and does things you either don’t know about or are not willing to do.

In this edition of “Off the Grid,” Tootie spends a shift with the Lafayette Police Department.

"I'm Tootie Landry and this is 'Off the Grid!'

This past weekend I got to ride a 12 hour shift with the Lafayette City Police Patrol Unit. The evening began with a briefing about the night's activities. I'm a little concerned at this point being I'm the only one not wearing sunglasses and a bullet proof vest. But, I'm all in....I think.

I'm assigned to Sargeant Goolsby for the night. I'm really hoping he likes to speed because the times I drive around Lafayette, traffic seems to crawl.

One of our first calls of the night was a domestic violence assault . This is so exciting! We were first to arrive on the scene . I was told to stay in the car, but from my vantage point I could see the situation unfolding. O.M.G.! My Sargeant was getting attacked! Should I call for backup? Call the police? Wait a minute.....I'm the police tonight! Thankfully, with laser finesse my partner wrestled the criminal down and he was arrested! It was so chaotic my partner's shirt even came untucked! Backup patrols were there in a flash ! These guys are not eating donuts in coffee shops. They are Lafayette's version of Jason Bourne!

We were sent on many calls that night, but the busiest was at 2:00 am when the downtown Bars close. Wow!!! Have I been living in a monastery? I had no idea how many people stay out this late!!! There are thousands of folks all leaving at the same time! I'm supposed to stick with my partner, but instead find myself standing in the middle of the intersection of Jefferson and Garfield directing traffic! Not really. I had lost my partner and quickly found the nearest policeman who could use a totally useless blonde chick as  backup!

And finally, even though my evening wasn't as eventful as an episode of Breaking Bad, I'm sure I heard them say one time, 'Book 'em, Tootie!'

And I'm Tootie Landry and I'm 'Off the Grid!'"
