LUTCHER, La. (AP) — The St. James Parish School Board has approved a new four-year contract for Superintendent Alonzo Luce.

Luce told The Advocate following Monday's board meeting that he was offered a position at the LouisianaDepartment of Education but declined further comment.

Originally hired in 2007, Luce's current contract was given a four-year extension just last year and was not set to expire until 2015.

School Board President Charles Nailor said the superintendent told him it wasn't about making more money, but rather about stability and building security within the school system.
