St. Landry Couple Charged In Child Beating

An area couple is behind bars after a ten year old boy goes to school badly beaten.

The boy attends a school Lafayette. Investigators went to the school after a social worker there called them about the child. Investigators say the boy told them that his mother's boyfriend, 28-year-old Christopher Minix, whipped him with an extension cord after authorities noticed he had been whipped from the top of his body down to his legs.

Minix was arrested and charged with Cruelty to a juvenile. The mother, 30-year-old Iyabo Segun, was arrested and charged with Principle to Cruelty to a Juvenile. Both are in the St. Landry Parish Jail. They have been living together in Cankton.

The child has been placed into custody of Office of Child Services.
