Tips submitted to St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers have led to the arrest of a non-compliant sex offender in Opelousas.

Crime Stoppers spokesman Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux said 32-year-old Derrick O'Connor was one of four sex offenders featured on a Crime Stoppers segment this week.

Within 24 hours of the segment airing, Crime Stoppers received tips on O'Connor's whereabouts.

The St. Landry Parish Sex Offender Unit conducted surveillance on a St. Patrick Street home in Opelousas until a positive identification was made on O’Connor.

O'Connor was booked into the St, Landry Parish Jail for failure to register as a sex offender.

His bail was set at $2,500.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank Crime Stoppers, the news media outlets and the tipsters.  Working together a sex offender was arrested for noncompliance which made our neighborhoods a safer place to raise our kids and to live.  Our agency is still looking for 3 more sex offenders, their profiles can be seen at either our St. Landry Sheriff’s Office or the St. Landry Crime Stoppers Facebook pages.”
