A man who had already escaped once while in the custody of Opelousas city marshals has escaped once again, this time from the St. Landry Parish Jail.

The sheriff's office said Theobegi Levier, who is facing a count of attempted first-degree murder, managed to overpower a deputy and flee on foot while being taken to the Opelousas Health Unit.

Levier was shackled at the time of his escape, Higgins said.

Levier had spent three weeks on the run in February after his arrest on charges of attempted first-degree murder and attempted robbery charges.

Anyone with information about Levier's whereabouts is urged to call the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
