(KPEL) -- The newest charter school in St. Landry Parish is set to open soon, and it will feature some high-profile technology in its classrooms.

J.S. Clark Leadership Academy is set to open Aug. 1 with 180 students and a waiting list of 60 students.

Tiffanie Lewis, the school's chief executive officer, says each classroom will have Apple televisions so teachers can download students' work onto a television monitor. Each student will also have an iPad, Lewis says.

Lewis predicts interest in the school will grow next year once parents learn about their technology and project-based lessons.

The school is operated by the non-profit group Outreach Development Corps. It will start out teaching grades five through seven and will expand each year to grade 12.
