PORT BARRE, La. (KPEL) -- A 24-year-old St. Landry Parish man was arrested Saturday after he broke into a home and resisted the efforts of police to take him into custody.

Capt. Megan Vizena with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says Michael Gillespie knocked in the front door to a home and began fighting with the people inside.

When deputies arrived, Vizena says he began punching and kicking them. This continued after he was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail where he struck a deputy in the face, Vizena says.

No bond has been set at this time, Vizena says.
