Creswell Elementary in Opelousas will be taken over by the state of Louisiana after getting a failing grade from the state for the past four years.

The news was made public at last night's St. Landry Parish School Board meeting.

The school has received an "academically unacceptable" rating for years prompting interim superintendent Joseph Cassimere to suggest last year that the school be reconstituted to try to prevent it from being taken over by the state of Louisiana.

Creswell is one of six "academically unacceptable" schools in the St. Landry parish.  The other schools have only received the designation once, and so are in no danger now of state takeoever.
