The St. Landry Parish School Board voted twice, but they were not able to get more than a six to six vote each time while they were trying to vote on a school board member.

The Advocate reports that all six black board members voted for former parish school administrator and Opelousas Alderman Harvey Darbonne who is black.  All six white board members voted to for former board member Armand Castille who is white.

The School Board's attorney Gerard Caswell says that he will know how to let the Governor's office know that the board couldn't come to a decision on a member.  Governor Bobby Jindal will be charged with appointed a school board member.

There were five candidates for the position.  The seat became available when Scott Richard resigned the post to go to work for the Louisiana School Board Association.
