It has taken eight months, but now the St. Landry Parish School Board has voted for Edward Brown to be the new superintendent.

Brown has served for years as the supervisor of child welfare and attendance.  Brown was selected over Joseph Cassimere who has been serving as the interim superintendent for more than a year.

It takes seven votes out of the 13 member board to get the job.  Cassimere and Brown have been the two top contenders, but after a series of votes, neither man was able to secure the seven votes needed to get the job.

Originally five candidates applied for the superintendent's job.  The job opened up in 2011 when Superintendent Michael Nassif resigned.
