OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — The St. Landry Parish School Board has voted 10-3 to extend the contract of Superintendent Edward Brown until Dec. 31, 2016.

The Advocate reports board members spent nearly an hour in closed session Thursday evaluating Brown and discussing his job performance as superintendent since he assumed the position on May 3, 2013.

Brown's current two-year contract is scheduled to expire on May 2, 2015. His salary of $118,000 a year will remain in effect during the contract extension.

Brown's current contract stipulates he would undergo annual evaluations, something the board had failed to perform until Thursday.

Board President Josie Frank said Brown scored an overall 4.07 out of a possible 5.0 on his evaluation, based on 35 questions.

The evaluation covered topics such as responsibility, educational programing and planning.
