Update: 21-year-old Javien Demouchet was arrested Monday evening after police say he tried to run away from officers trying to arrest him.

Major Ginny Higgins with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says Demouchet was arrested in the 100 block of Church Street in St. Martinville. Major Higgins says an anonymous caller placed him in the area, where officer found him, arrested him, then booked him into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on $500,000.00 bond.

Update: The suspect that police say escaped custody in St. Martin Parish, causing a soft lockdown of the School Board Office, is identified as 21-year-old Javien Demouchet.

Demouchet is described as a black male 5'9" 125 pounds with dreadlocks. He was last seen in the Martin Luther King and Theater Street area.

In St. Martin Parish, a soft lockdown has been put in place as police search for a suspect allegedly did not appear for drug court.

According to our news partners at KATC, there was some confusion as school board officials say they were originally told an inmate had escaped from the jail, but that's not the case.

Police are still looking for the suspect at this time. The School Board Office remains on soft lockdown.
