The St. Martin Parish School Board will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first telemedicine program, called “Telehealth for Tots,” on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m.  A School-Based Health Clinic (SBHC) in St. Martinville will begin serving students at Stephensville Elementary School in lower St. Martin Parish via live telecommunications.

St. Martin Parish has three clinics throughout the parish serving 17 of its schools. Traveling by bus from Stephensville, the parish’s farthest outlying school, takes over an hour to reach the SBHC in St. Martinville.  Long distances burden rural schools with transporting students and lost classroom time.  Telehealth for Tots allows Stephensville students an examination without leaving school, saving time and expenses.
