(St. Martinville, La.)-Deputy Brandy Sickey with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office S.L.I.C.E. (Street Level Interdiction and Crime Enforcement) Team, recently completed certification for her canine, Argo, from the National Police Canine Association.

On January 26-28, 2011, Brandy, along with her canine, competed with approximately 25 other K-9 teams from around the country in Beaumont Texas.  A minimum score of 75% had to be achieved in order to receive a passing score, and they received a 100% score in all six categories that they competed in.  The certification process which allowed for only one opportunity to complete each task consisted of the following events:


The Obedience Event
The Building Search Event
The Area Search Event
The Criminal Apprehension Event
Recall Phase Event
Courage Test Event

Deputy Sickey performs weekly extensive training with Argo in order for him to be able to undergo such a rigorous process to become certified.  Argo will be utilized in the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office to perform many functions related to
the apprehension of criminals and detection of illegal narcotics.
