St. Martin Parish Traffic Stop Turns Up Thousands In Cash

A simple traffic stop on I-10 turns up tens of thousands of dollars in cash.

Deputies in St. Martin Parish tell us they pulled over a car just before midnight on the interstate for an improper lane usage violation. The driver of the car, Edith Gonzales, told police she was on her way to Houston from Baton Rouge.

A drug canine alerted officers to the possibility of drugs in the car, and when police searched, they just just over 84-thousand dollars in cash. Gonzales told police the money wasn't hers and she was ticketed and released.

The case remains under investigation.
