Law enforcement officers from 16 agencies around the state completed a two-week Juvenile Officer Academy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Training Academy.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Maj. Ginny Higgins reported 27 officers received instruction on legal and court procedures, interview and interrogation, Amber Alert procedures, runaway investigations, child death investigations, physical abuse investigations, computer-related crimes, mental health issues and probation and parole procedures.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office hosted and trained officers from the following agencies.

  • Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office
  • Jennings Police Department
  • Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office

  • Slidell Police Department
  • St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office
  • St. John Parish Sheriff's Office
