St. Martinville Police Investigate Overnight Shooting

Police in St. Martinville are investigating an apparent overnight shooting that has left one person dead.

Maj. Ginny Higgins with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office said officers were called out to reports of shots fired in the area of Governor Mouton. When police arrived on the scene, they observed a vehicle leaving the area.

Police began following that vehicle until it abruptly stopped, and the two passengers fled on foot.

Inside the vehicle police found the body of a dead male; his identity is not known at this time, Higgins said.

The investigation continues.
