Tuesday of last week, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office got a complaint about someone cashing a fraudulent check at a business in Amelia.

Detectives began investigating, and they learned that two other businesses had the same thing happen at their establishments.

A Morgan City business also complained of a similar crime.

Detectives from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and the Morgan City Police Department teamed up, and they believe the same man is responsible for each of the four crimes.

The suspect was able to cash checks totalling about $2,000 by using fraudulent documents and another person's ID card to do it.

Police are looking for the man and a newer model champagne colored Chevy Malibu in connection with the cases. The suspect was seen getting out of the passenger side of the color while someone else is driving.

Anyone with information about the crime can call the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office at 985-384-1622 or the Morgan City Police Department at 985-380-4605.
