Early Sunday morning St. Mary Parish deputies arrested 45-year-old Sidney T. Couvillier Sr of West Third Street in Franklin on a variety of charges.  A deputy says that while assisting with a traffic stop, that deputy saw a car drive through an intersection without stopping at the stop sign. The deputy also saw the vehicle swerving.

The deputy was able to stop the car, and a traffic stop was conducted. The deputy says that when he came into contact with the driver, the deputy smelled the odor of alcohol on his person. The deputy administered a field sobriety test which he says Couvillier performed poorly on.  The deputy says Couvillier  later registered a 0.278% on the Intoxilyzer 5000 breathe test.

Couvillier was transported to the parish jail  and booked on charges of stop sign violation, improper lane usage, careless operation of a motor vehicle, threatening a public official, and driving while intoxicated.

In an unrelated traffic stop, St. Mary Parish Deputies arrested 58-year-old Judy Breaux of 234 Canton Street in Berwick for hit and run and driving under suspension.  A deputy says while they were on their way to respond to a vehicle crash report, the deputy discovered that the person who allegedly caused the crash had left the area.  The person who called to complain about the hit and run followed the alleged person responsible to Canton Street.  According the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office press release, “when the deputy arrived an investigation revealed that Breaux was driving under suspension. Breaux was released on a summons to appear in court on October 4, 2012.”
