The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested 23-year-old Cody Thibodeaux for attempted second degree murder for allegedly shooting a man near the intersection of Polaris and Saturn Roads in Bayou Vista Tuesday afternoon.

Just after one in the afternoon, the sheriff's office received a call about the shooting, and they also learned that a car fled that area in the direction of Teche Road.

While they were working to establish a perimeter in the area around the Bayou Vista Community Center, one of the deputies found Thibodeaux hiding near one of the ball fields.

Police next found the car that had been see fleeing the scene of the shooting, and in the car they found a 30-year-old man who had been shot.

Detectives say Thibodeaux was in a fight with a female on Polaris Road when the domestic violence incident escalated. Police say Thibodeaux pulled out a gun, fired and hit the victim in the torso and elbow before running away.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

Thibodeaux was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
