A St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputy who responded to a crash yesterday evening detected the odor of alcohol on the breath of 49-year-old Douglas Dickerson of Patterson after deputies says he hit a 69-year-old victim as Dickerson was backing out of a driveway.

Dickerson has been charged with:
  • Driving while intoxicated 2nd offense
  • Careless operation of a motor vehicle
  • Vehicular negligent injury

The deputy investigating the crash says the victim was taken to a hospital for observation, while the deputy says he noticed that Dickerson slurred his speech and swayed when he stood.

According to the deputy, Dickerson performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and he later registered a .139% blood alcohol content on the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath test.

Dickerson was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
