Deputies on patrol in Bayou Vista yesterday noticed a driver fail to signal a turn.  When they pulled over the driver, who was later identified as Jerald Stansbury, police say he got out and began running.

Officers chased him, but he was able to get out of their sight. They did find a ditched bag of marijuana near the area that Stansbury ran through.

As police were searching the area, they observed a car continually driving around the same area. Officers decided to perform another traffic stop.

As the driver of vehicle, Anthony Watts, was being questioned police noticed three children in the backseat, all of them were not properly restrained, and a man identified as Jerald Stansbury was attempting to hide on the floorboard underneath their feet.

Stansbury was arrested on a multitple charges:

  • resisting an officer by flight
  • failure to signal
  • driving under suspension
  • possession of marijuana 2nd offense
  • obstruction of justice

Watts was charged with:

  • a standing warrant for failure to appear for driving under suspension
  • license plate light required
  • a standing warrant from the Morgan City Police for simple battery
