17 people were arrested by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office over the 4-day New Year holiday reporting period. Deputies say they responded to 159 complaints.

Mateo Lupis, 21, 1920 41st Avenue, North Texas City, Texas was arrested on December 30, 2015 at 9:05 am for second degree battery. Deputies responded to a complaint of a possible cutting at a location of Alice B Road. Deputies learned that Lupis and another male subject were arguing when Lupis struck the male victim causing him to lose consciousness. Deputies located Lupis hiding beneath a bed in a nearby camper trailer. No bail is set.

John Dupas, 38, 2508 Belmont Place, Metairie, LA was arrested on December 30, 2015 at 8:59 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of resisting an officer, disturbing the peace (intoxicated). Dupas turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office in Franklin. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.

Paul M. Daigle, 37, 126 Renee Street, Apt. 5, Pierre Part, LA was arrested on December 30, 2015 at 2:16 pm on 3 warrants for failure to appear for drug court status conferences. A deputy transported Daigle from the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. Bail is set at $300,000.

Kerry J. Oppenheimer, 46, 516 Emery Lewis Avenue, New Iberia, LA was arrested on December 30, 2015 at 4:48 pm on a warrant for flight from an officer and illegal possession of stolen things. On December 28, 2015, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle seen trespassing at Cypremort Point. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop. The deputy followed the vehicle that continued to travel at a low rate of speed into Iberia Parish. The vehicle came to a stop on the Highway 90 frontage road near College Road in New Iberia. The driver, Oppenheimer, was detained. During the investigation, the deputy recovered several suspected stolen items from inside Oppenheimer's vehicle. Detectives identified the items as being stolen from a victim's truck at the Patout boat landing in Iberia Parish. Oppenheimer was transported from the Iberia Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. No bail is set.

Elvin Jordan Menjivar, 32, 1200 Front Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on December 31, 2015 at 1:31 am for reckless operation of a vehicle, no insurance, and no driver's license.
A deputy observed a vehicle traveling 94 miles per hour in a posted 70 mile per hour zone on Highway 90 in the Amelia area and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, Menjivar, and learned that he was operating the vehicle without a driver's license or insurance. Menjivar was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was released on a summons to appear in court on March 7, 2016.

Jaymie L. Brownlee, 30, 1001 Michael Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on December 31, 2015 at 6:56 am on a warrant for failure to appear in the charge of criminal neglect of family. During a traffic stop conducted on Highway 90 in the Berwick area, a deputy made contact with Brownlee and located the active warrant for his arrest. Brownlee was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was released after paying the $2,348 fine.

Kevin Drexler, 32, 603 Julia Street, New Iberia, LA was arrested on December 31, 2015 at 11:20 am for battery of a correctional facility employee and criminal damage to property. Drexler, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, threw water containing a cleaning chemical onto a jailer causing discoloration to the deputy's uniform. No bail is set.

Kerdern Martin, 29, 149 Pickett Lane, Charenton, LA was arrested on January 1, 2016 at 3:13 am on a warrant for domestic abuse battery and simple assault. On November 14, 2015, a deputy began an investigation into a complaint of domestic abuse. The deputy learned that Martin and a female subject were engaged in an argument when Martin made verbal threats on the female victim's life and slapped her in the face. A deputy responding to a separate complaint at Martin's residence made contact with him and located the active warrant for his arrest. No bail is set.

Hamilton Banks, 28, 910 Everett Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on January 1, 2016 at 7:05 pm for violation of the parish loud noise ordinance and expired drivers license. A deputy traveling on Highway 182 in Morgan City heard extremely loud music emanating from a vehicle. The music also drew the attention of several subjects in a nearby parking lot. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Banks. While speaking with Banks, the deputy learned that his driver's license was expired. The deputy released Banks on a summons to appear in court on March 30, 2016.

Derek L. Brown, 24, 1332 Chitimacha Trail, Baldwin, LA was arrested on January 2, 2016 at 11:47 am on a Chitimacha Police Department warrant for burglary of an inhabited dwelling and sexual assault. Brown turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Bail is set at $100,000.

Devin P. Guillot, 29, 542 Bayou Drive, Pierre Part, LA was arrested on January 2, 2016 at 2:05 pm for theft of goods. A deputy investigating a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista learned from store personnel that Guillot placed tags of lower priced items on merchandise and attempted to check out with the falsely priced goods. Guillot was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was later released on a $1,000 bond.

Juvenile female, 14, Berwick, LA was arrested on January 2, 2016 at 11:24 pm for being an ungovernable juvenile. A deputy investigating a report of a runaway juvenile located the teenager at another residence in Berwick. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.

Lissie Bernard, 26, 1019 Harrison Street, New Iberia, LA was arrested on January 2, 2016 at 11:39 pm for the following offenses:
- Failure to signal a lane change
- No driver's license
- No motor vehicle insurance
- Expired inspection sticker
- Switched license plate
- Canceled license plate
A deputy observed a vehicle fail to signal a lane change on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Bernard, and discovered multiple violations including a switched license plate. Bernard was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bernard was later released on a summons to appear in court on March 30, 2016.

Antonio D. Pickett, 49, 1409 Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, LA was arrested on January 3, 2016 at 3:10 pm for driving while intoxicated, careless operation with a crash, and no driver's license. A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Highway 90 in Ricohoc. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Pickett, and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. Pickett later registered a 0.365g% blood alcohol concentration on the breath test. Due to his high level of intoxication, Pickett was transported to the hospital. Following his release, Pickett was booked into the parish jail. No bail is set.

Phillip J. Dehart, 31, 4200 Francis Street, Berwick, LA was arrested on January 3, 2016 at 7:57 pm for driving under suspension. A deputy conducting a traffic stop on Highway 90 in the Siracusa area made contact with the driver, identified as Dehart, and learned that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. The deputy released Dehart on a summons to appear in court on March 30, 2016.

Charles Cantrell, 45, 150 Two Sisters Court, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on January 3, 2016 at 8:22 pm on a Morgan City Police Department warrant for failure to appear on traffic violations and on a 16th Judicial District bench warrant for failure to appear on the charge of stalking. A deputy located Cantrell at his residence on the warrants and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Jerrell Lockett, 27, 206 Joseph Street, Baldwin, LA was arrested on January 3, 2016 at 9:07 pm for the following offenses:
- Reckless operation of a vehicle
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Resisting an officer
- Hit and run driving
- Criminal trespass
- Obstruction of justice
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- No proof of motor vehicle insurance
A deputy patrolling Highway 182 in the Sorrel area observed a vehicle traveling 75 miles per hour in a posted 45 mile per hour zone. The deputy followed the vehicle and observed the driver continue to travel at a high rate of speed and fail to signal a turn onto Sorrel Bridge Approach Road. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle accelerated the car forcing other motorists to drive off the roadway. The deputy pursued the vehicle onto Highway 87 and into the Charenton area. The driver of the suspect vehicle nearly struck a Chitimacha Police unit that responded to assist the deputy with the traffic stop. The suspect driver, later identified as Lockett, slowed the vehicle on Joseph Street, exited the car, and fled on foot. The deputy following the vehicle observed Lockett drop several items as he attempted to flee from the area. The car came to a stop after striking a newspaper delivery box and crashing into a ditch. Deputies pursued Lockett on foot and apprehended him in a nearby sugarcane field. The items recovered include a large amount of marijuana, several small plastic baggies, and a scale. Additional marijuana was located inside the vehicle. Lockett was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
