St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Daily Arrest Report

The following is a list of the people who booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail for Wednesday, January 25, 2017:

Dontrell Phillips, 30, 203 Utopia Street, Baldwin, LA was arrested on January 24, 2017 at 1:59 pm for the following offenses:

-     Failure to signal 100 feet prior to an intersection

-     2 counts resisting an officer

-     Possession of marijuana

-     Expired driver’s license

-     Warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of Schedule I drugs

Deputies patrolling St. Joseph observed a vehicle turn onto Easy Street without signaling the maneuver. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Phillips, and a passenger. While speaking with the occupants, the deputies smelled the strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. Deputies also located an active warrant for Philips. During his arrest, Phillips started to pull away from one deputy and struck the other deputy with his shoulder. Phillips then lunged at that deputy’s neck with an open mouth in an attempt to bite the deputy. Continuing the investigation, a deputy search the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana. Deputies also found that Phillips was operating the vehicle with an expired driver’s license. Phillips was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.  

John Buck, Jr., 30, 266 Ricohoc Drive, Ricohoc, LA was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on January 24, 2017 at 11:16 am on a warrant for second degree battery, home invasion, simple battery, and disturbing the peace. On the evening of January 20, 2017, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of Carol Road in Bayou Vista. Deputies first on scene learned that John Buck, Jr. and a female subject were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Another subject at the residence fired a .22 caliber gun at Buck striking him. Buck then fled the residence on foot. Deputies along with the K-9 Unit and detectives tracked the suspect through the yards of several residences in the area. A K-9 team with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office also assisted in the search. On Monday, January 23, 2017, Buck turned himself in to St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives in Terrebonne Parish. Buck was arrested by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office on the warrant from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. No bail is set.

Anthony Ruffin, 43, 1417 Mansfield Marrero, LA was arrested on January 24, 2017 at 5:43 pm for suspended driver’s license and driving on divide highways (driving in the median). A detective traveling on Highway 90 in Siracusa observed a vehicle turn into the median of the roadway. As the car made the turn, several other westbound vehicles were forced to stop abruptly to avoid striking the car. The detective conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, identified as Ruffin. The deputy found that Ruffin was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Ruffin was released on a summons to appear in court on April 5, 2017.

James Skinner, 63, 742 Chetta Lane, Siracusa, LA was arrested on January 25, 2017 at 1:39 am for the following offenses:

-     Switched license plate

-     No driver’s license

-     Stop sign violation

-     No motor vehicle insurance

A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the LA Highway 182 frontage road and Lake Palourde Road. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, identified as Skinner. The deputy found that Skinner had switched the license plate on the vehicle and that he was driving the SUV without a license or insurance. Skinner was released on a summons to appear in court on April 5, 2017.
