St. Mary Parish Woman Arrested For Criminal Abandonment

Sunday morning, January 26, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received an anonymous tip that two children had been left home alone.

Deputies went to the home of 27-year-old Susana Hernandez at 233 Southwest Road in Bayou Vista to investigate.  Officers found a 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl alone at the home.

The children were then taken in by the Office of Child Services.

As deputies continued to investigate the case, they found eventually located Hernandez.  She admitted to deputies she knowingly left her children at home alone.

She was booked on two counts of criminal abandonment.
