The wife of Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy has confirmed to the New York Times that he died earlier this morning at their home in Bel Air.

Nimoy will long be remembered for his portrayal of the Star Trek character Mr. Spock, the pointy-eared Vulcan first officer of the starship Enterprise.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, told the newspaper his death was caused by end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Though Nimoy is best known for Star Trek, he also directed several several films and television shows, and he was lesser known for his poetry, photography, and other artistic pursuits.

Nimoy was 83 years old. Live long and propser, Mr. Spock.
