DELCAMBRE, La. (AP) — A state audit finds a former employee of the town of Delcambre is accused of embezzling more than $62,000 in tax and utility payments.

Mayor Carol Broussard tells The Advocate the female employee, whom he did not name, resigned last year after the town's accountant uncovered the alleged theft.

He says district attorney's office is reviewing the case, but no criminal charges have been filed.

The audit finds about $44,800 was misappropriated in the fiscal year that ended for the town in April 2013, and another $18,000 is missing from April 2013 until the employee resigned in November.

District Attorney Mike Harson said the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's office has been investigating the alleged embezzlement but that he just received a report on the case Monday.
