KAPLAN, La. (KPEL) -- State police are investigating a fatal crash near Kaplan that killed a Houston man.

According to Trpr. Stephen Hammons with Louisiana State Police Troop I, 57-year-old Thomas Trahan was driving his truck south on Hwy. 696 at 5:54 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, he drove off the left side of the road, struck a culvert, and overturned several times.

Trahan was wearing a seat belt, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner, Hammons said.

It's unknown if alcohol played a role in the crash, and the investigation continues.
