State Police Investigating Lafayette Sheriff’s Deputy Involved Shooting
Lafayette Sheriff's deputies were called out to a disturbance on Crip Lane which then led them to the 1600 block of Ridge Road to talk to a suspect.
Deputies say they were confronted by 54-year-old Jesse J. Champagne who was pointing a shotgun at them. Deputies say they were forced to defend themselves.
Champagne was shot in his lower body and taken to the hospital to be treated.
Champagne is being charged with the following:
- Indecent behavior with juveniles
- Simple assault
- Disturbing the peace
State Police is investigating the shooting.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is completed.
