For the first time ever Louisiana has received an award for reporting the greatest reduction in highway death rates. The state will be recognized by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. State Police Spokesperson Lt. Doug Cain says Louisiana has seen a 24% decrease in fatal crashes from 2007 to 2010. Cain says it's something to be very proud of. He credits proactive enforcement, safety education programs and the public is getting the message. Cain says state police are going to continue to step up their efforts to ensure that this trend continues.
