The state police are expanding the Nixle Alert System statewide. Nixle is a community information system that gives the citizens of the state information such as public safety information, evacuation orders, major road closures, curfews, Amber alerts and more. The system supports most major cell phone carriers including AT&T, Sprint/Nextel, Verizon, U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile, and Virgin Mobile. You can sign up for the free service at www.nixle.com.
The public, as well as the media, is encouraged to sign up for Nixle alerts by going to the website and selecting Louisiana State Police as their agency.
