A high school student was hit by a bus Thursday afternoon at Lafayette High School.

Lafayette Parish School System officials say she has a broken pelvis but suffered no major injuries. The student has been released from surgery at Lafayette General Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

Witnesses say the student was running toward the moving school bus when she was hit.

Julie Gauthier with the Lafayette Parish School System says the bus driver is being put through LPSS's standard procedures. Gauthier says the driver is "very emotionally distraught about the accident."

Corporal Kyle Soriez with Lafayette Police says he doesn't know of any citations that have been given at this point. Soriez says they are waiting for further information from investigators.
