Some long awaited construction to renovate the UL Student Union starts on August 15, and the likely completion date will be around 2014.  That means for some time at the union at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, things will slow down considerably.

According to William Crist, Campus Facilities Manager, the only service that will be open in the Union building will be the bookstore once construction gets underway.

The idea of renovations came to light 10 years ago as students gave their support for the project.  At that time, they approved a $55 fee per semester to help the university have the needed funding.  As it is now available, The Lemoine Company submitted the low bid.  The cost of the project should be around $35 million.
