Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Jim Simon, General Manager of the American Sugar Cane League said the 2012 harvest is starting well.

According to Simon harvest in some areas has been delayed by Hurricane Isaac,

"Some of our farmers are having to plant next year's crop at the same time they are harvesting this year's crop.  This is not the ideal way to work but due to poor weather conditions workers are having to catch up planting to insure next year's crop."

Simon said some farmers in the eastern part of the sugar cane producing parishes have already started harvesting while Iberia Parish will start up next week.
