The third weekend of Sun Belt Conference softball is in the books, and only one undefeated team remains.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns opened up their 2017 road schedule with a three-game sweep of the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile, Alabama.

The Cajuns won the opening game of the series, 8-3, before taking the second game, 4-2, prior to completing the sweep with a 9-4 win in the final game.

Louisiana, who has now won 31-consecutive Sun Belt Conference series', hasn't lost two games in a weekend in conference play since 2013, against the Jaguars.

The Cajuns were impressive at the plate, crushing 6 homers against a South Alabama team that had only allowed 8 all season heading into the weekend, while Alex Stewart recorded two wins in the circle.

Louisiana is starting to peak at the right time.

As for South Alabama, they'll be fine. Devin Brown and Destin Vicknair are two really good arms, and I look for the Jaguars to play much better, and pick up their share of conference wins, from her on out.

Texas St., who won two of three games against ULM over the weekend, got two wins from Randi Rupp, who did not allow an earned run in 12 innings, and is now 15-2 on the season. The Bobcats are now 24-5, overall, and 7-1 in league play.

And how about ULM?!?!? Yes, the Warhawks dropped two of three games, but they handed Texas St. their first conference loss of the season, lost the rubber game, 21, and showed that they will likely be a tough opponent all year.

Appalachian, who is much-improved from last season, is only four games under .500, at 11-15, but open at 0-6 in league play, after getting swept by Georgia St. over the weekend.

As for the Panthers, they have been somewhat inconsistent, sweeping a series from South Alabama, before dropping 2-of-3 from Troy, prior to sweeping Appalachian St. When they get pitching, they can be really good.

The Coastal Carolina/Troy series looked like a good one, with the Chanticleers winning all three games by one run.

The Chanticleers are now 24-8, overall, have 6 of their next 9 conference games at home, and have the talent to be a major factor in the league.

Troy is only 3-6 in conference play, but five of those losses have been one-run setbacks.

Finally, Georgia Southern won 2-of-3 over UTA this past weekend, winning the opener, 11-3, before dropping the second game, 9-8, and then winning the rubber game, 8-0.

That was a big road series win for the Eagles, who are now in sole possession of fourth place in the league.

After two weekends of conference play, Louisiana leads the way, at 6-0, followed by Texas St. (7-1), Georgia St. (7-2), Georgia Southern (5-4), Coastal Carolina (4-4), ULM (4-5), Troy (3-6), UTA (3-6), South Alabama (2-7), and Appalachian St. (0-6).
