A suspected was arrested Saturday in the July 4 shooting at a Birch Drive apartment complex.

Cpl. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department said Taylor Hebert turned himself in and was arrested on charges of aggravated battery by a firearm.

Mouton said police were called out to the apartment at 6:50 p.m. Friday. The victim told officers that his mother was involved in an argument when he went to her assistance. Hebert allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in his left thigh; he then fled into the apartment complex, Mouton said.

The 39-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
