Baton Rouge authorities say a man who shot a woman to death and ran over two people was killed in shootout with police.

Major Bryan White, with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Department, tells The Advocate the man refused to listen to the commands from deputies to show them his hands.

Deputies shot the man, and then he ran into the woods near Interstate 10.

Deputies were able to catch the 48-year-old, and he died while he was being taken to a hospital.

Authorities say from what they know at this point, the at some point Sunday evening the man shot the woman, and he threw her out of a car.

The man went on to shoot a bystander, and then he ran over two people who happened to be near that area. One of the people run over was a 17-year-old medical trainee.
