LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A suspicious device that forced the shut down of Garfield Street at its intersections with Johnston Street and Gordon Street turned out to be nothing.

Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department says someone alerted them to the device on the roadside. He says it appears to simply be trash and "doesn't appear to be anything."

Trahan says crews were at the scene since 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

All streets have since been re-opened.
