Around 3:20 this afternoon, Lafayette Fire and Police Departments along with State Police Hazmat Teams responded to 3222 Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Sam's Club, for a report of a suspicious package in the parking lot.

Emergency responders were notified by the manager of the store that a package was discovered to have suspicious writings on the sides. It was found near vehicles belonging to employees of the store.  Officials say it was a styrofoam cooler.

After two and half hours, Hazmat officials were able to render the package safe enough to look inside.  The contents were determined to be cold beverages with ice.

The Lafayette Police Department will be investigating to determined who left the suspicious package in the parking lot.
