It was a close vote, but in the end, seven members said no to having the discussion.

Jared Bellard said the introduction of a weighted voting system for the Consolidated Council was another attempt to deconsolidate.

Lafayette City Parish President Joey Durel again discussed his positiion on TIFs and taxes after this Tuesday's meeting of the Council. The council voted seven to two against a proposed ordinance that would have required an proposed TIF or tax to go to a vote of the people.

The Charter Commission could take a final vote tonight on a proposal to create separate governmental charters for the city of Lafayette and Lafayette Parish.  The panel was leaning that way when it last met.  Commission member Bruce Conque spoke with Ken Romero and Bernadette Lee about what could happen this evening.
