WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense officials say the people who've been holding American soldier Bowe Bergdahl (boh BURG'-dahl) since June 2009 are anxious to release him.

A defense official and a military officer who've spoken to The Associated Press only on condition of anonymity, say the captors are unclear which U.S. government officials have the authority to make a deal.

A defense official says several agencies are on the case, including the State and Defense departments, the military's U.S. Central Command, the CIA and the FBI.
