The Cinderella Project is priceless!

When: TODAY! Saturday, 3/9 9AM-4PM

Where: Lafayette Hilton Garden Inn, 2350 W. Congress St.

How does it work?

Our event is open to all Junior and Senior high schools girls.  All you need to bring is a valid school ID and you're free to shop for the perfect dress along with shoes and accessories.  Plus just signing in gives you the chance to win one of our many door prizes.  There is absolutely NO cost to you! We are also proud to provide minor on-site alterations so you can leave with your dress in ready to wear condition.  All dresses are given on a first-come first-serve basis.

What's this all about?

In 2008, UL Americorps members realized there was a need to help offset the cost of helping high school junior and senior girls look and feel their best on one of the most special nights of their young lives—PROM! Organizers say the first year was small, but very gratifying and successful. Through community support in ’08, they were able to collect 100 dresses, 40 girls “shopped” for the perfect gown for their “ball.”

In two years, they moved the event from a small room in the UL Student Union to a warehouse at the United Way complex. They were able to serve hundreds of girls with many donations. Not only did they have over 600 dresses for the girls to choose from, they also received shoes, jewelry and other accessories to really make the young ladies feel special. Local businesses began their involvement as well, donating hangers, gift certificates and clothing racks. The Junior League of Lafayette gave them a grant in 2009 that allowed them to buy other much-needed supplies.

Since 2011, The Cinderella Project has been sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, which has also served as a donation location. The “shopping day” has been held at The Hilton Garden Inn in Lafayette, and the event is open to any high school junior or senior in Acadiana who would like to feel special on her special night.

This year, The Cinderella Project has collected over 850 dresses for the girls to choose from. UL Americorps would like to thank every business and community member who donated to the project for making each girl feel like a princess!
