There will be a meeting of the Evangeline Corridor Initiative tonight where they will hold a workshop, "Downtown/Freetown-Port Rico District Design Workshop".

The meeting will be held tonight from 5:30 p.m. through 9 p.m. at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center at 101 Jefferson Street.

The Evangeline Corridor Initiative will be holding this series of neighborhood design workshops where people attending will participate in exercises to give their ideas for improvements to their neighborhoods.

People from the Downtown, Freetown and Port Rico neighborhoods along with other interested parties are encouraged to attend to voice their thoughts on changes coming to their area.

This is a related story about the I-49 Connector Project from the Associated Press:

A state transportation official is telling people who oppose a conventional interstate highway through Lafayette that they should resign from a community advisory committee.

Toby Picard, who's managing the design of an Interstate 49 segment near downtown Lafayette, sent the email Tuesday.

Some members of the Community Working Group want to build a boulevard instead of a controlled access highway along part of the segment.

Picard wrote in his email that the 5.5-mile highway segment must meet interstate standards and can't bypass Lafayette.

He invited members of the committee who can't live within those parameters to resign by May 15, so the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development can appoint replacements.

Committee members who want to consider alternatives say Picard is suppressing public input.
