Feds Arrest Opelousas Man On Child Porn Charges

Gary Jefferson Byrd, a resident of St. Landry Parish, was arrested by federal officials on charges dealing with child pornography, according to Louisiana State Police.

After an investigation that paired federal and state law enforcement officials, Byrd was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with possession of pornography involving juveniles. As a result of the continuing investigation, few additional details are being released at this time.

This is not the first time that Byrd has been charged with child porn.  He was arrested in 1987 for obtaining child pornography through the mail, and five years later he received a ten year sentence and a 65-thousand dollar fine for the charges against him.
