The Iberia Parish Council has voted in favor of a resolution that would put the breaks on a meeting that would be looking into the strained relationship between the Iberia Parish President Errol Romero and the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office.  There has been a feud between the two over why the Iberia government is paying for health benefits for some at the D-A's office.

The council decided that their best course of action right now is to hire an attorney.  The council has selected to hire lawyer Donald Washington.  They want him to give them an idea of how they should go about getting questions and complaints to a higher authority for questioning.  They believe the information should be given possibly to either the Louisiana State Police or Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's office.  They say at that point it is up to either or both of the agencies to decide what to do with the information.

As early as this week Iberia Parish President Romero's attorney had said that they like would be very open to an investigation by the Louisiana State Police if something like that does come from any information given to that agency.

For weeks now, Romero has questioned repeatedly why the parish government pays for the health insurance benefits for employees at the D-A's office.  He was told it has been done for some length of time.  He disputes that his government should be paying for those benefits.
