The Iberia Parish Council met this week to discuss possibly discussing whether or not their should be consolidation of local governments, but the council voted 7-6 to not even have the discussion.  The council decided to kill the idea of having those talks.

The idea would be to consolidated government agencies and servcies, but the vote shut down even possible discussion of the idea.

To move the issue forward for discussion, the idea would have needed eight council members to make up a majority to move it along.

The idea was proposed by Councilman David Ditch.  His resolution, if it had gotten enough votes, would have been to discuss legislation that could create a city-parish government structure.  Ditch said it was not about calling for a vote of the people, but rather just a discussion.  The measure was defeated.
