The 2014 FIFA World Cup is set for it’s final game and soccer fans in Acadiana will have the chance to join together for the game.

Lafayette Youth Soccer is sponsoring a free watch party event in downtown Lafayette’s Parc International. The gates will open at 12:30 and the final match will begin on the big screen at 2 p.m.

Today’s world cup final will feature Germany — who destroyed the home country Brazil by a score of 7-1 in the semi-final match — taking on Argentina, who stopped the Netherlands on penalty kicks. If Germany wins, it would be the first time a European country has won the World Cup on South American soil.

Those who plan on attending the watch party are reminded that while the temperature in Rio may be in the middle 70′s the temperature in Lafayette will be in the mid 90′s. There are certain precautions you should take. Make sure you pack some sunscreen and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring an umbrella to shield the sun or keep you dry from a passing afternoon thunderstorm.

Admission to the watch party is free of charge.
