MANSFIELD, La. (AP) — Eleven men and women applied for the position of DeSoto Parish schools superintendent. Only three remain in the running for interviews.

The Times reports the school board cut the field down in a meeting Thursday night.

Left in the running are interim DeSoto schools Superintendent Cade Brumley, of Stonewall; Tammye Turpin, of Calhoun, executive director of instruction and interim chief academic officer for the Monroe City School District; and Jon Whittemore, of Jasper, Texas, former Jasper ISD superintendent.

Board members will Interviews the remaining candidates next week. A meeting is set for Dec. 17 to make the final decision.

A superintendent vacancy was created on Nov. 2 with the unexpected retirement of Walter Lee.
